Criminal underfinancing of Bulgaria's health sector

In the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria the government is promising a "secure" health system, offering adequate care. The daily Klassa is outraged: "How can you maintain a health system on a budget of only around four percent of the GDP? That is criminal. The financing of this sector is nothing less than derisory. And it's the people's health that suffers. The lack of money results in corruption and other negative phenomena. ... The reform must go forward at all costs, and it must be coordinated with all of the institutions connected with public health: the Ministry of Health, the Finance and Social Affairs ministries, as well as patients' representatives."
